Happenings
What’s a Happening?
As our tagline says, LAND OF OPPORTUNITY is “Happening to a city near you…”. These stories from New Orleans that we’ve collected are meant to inspire and engage you around the issues that are taking place in your own community. More than just a screening of the film, a Happening should inspire educate and mobilize viewers around the urban issues (affordable housing, immigration, urban planning, economic development) that are affecting them. Land of Opportunity is about breaking through the barriers of single issues. It is about connecting the dots of a complex urban landscape that affects us all.
A Happening can be simple and familiar, or it can be “outside the box”. It can be an outdoor event, incorporate different art or artists, music, poetry, food, or just be a gathering of people committed to taking action in their community.Happenings vs. Regular Public Screenings:
To be called a Happening, your screening event should have an “ask” or action step that directs the attention of the people gathered together towards affecting some kind of change in their community. If that’s not something you’re comfortable with, you can still have a private screening for family, friends and colleagues. If you want to make it a public screening, we’d love to publish the info, so please email us at info@joluproductions.com.
