Thousands of latino immigrants moved to New Orleans to participate in the anticipated boom in reconstruction jobs. Some came from other cities in the United States, while others came from their home countries in Central and South America. The group of Hondurans working on Tr’Vel’s grandmothers house- Alex, Elmer and Elian all came from the same country, but came to New Orleans for different reasons and by different means. The differences in their experiences and motivations show that there are many reasons why people come to work in the United States, and that not all of them have the same aspirations to stay or bring their families with them.
